Marionette lines are the lines that form from the corner of the mouth down towards the sides of the chin. They can also get deeper with age and cause the mouth to appear downturned, resulting in a sad appearance.
In many cases, nasolabial and marionette lines form because of volume loss from the midface/cheeks, which causes the face to droop downwards, causing nasolabial lines and marionette lines to appear. In these cases, it is more beneficial to replace volume loss where it has initially been lost, which subsequently can give an upward pulling effect which reduces the depth of these lines.
In other cases, volume loss is minimal, and it is more beneficial to treat nasolabial and marionette lines directly by injecting filler along these folds to reduce the depth and give the face a smoother, rejuvenated appearance.
